Nowadays Andrea K. Schlehwein develops art concepts, writes texts and is engaged as a freelance director, choreographer and independent curator. Since 2012 she works irregularly as Invited Honorary Guest Professor for Choreography and Dance Creation at the prestigious Korea National University of Arts in Seoul, South Korea.

In 2006 AKS ended her career on stage that brought her to venues and festivals like: Theater am Marienplatz, Wiesbadener Maifestspiele, Berliner Festspiele, BAT Berlin, steirischer herbst, Wiener Festwochen, Kyoto City Hall, Fuchu no Mori Art Theatre in Japan to name only a few.

As a member of Freyer Ensemble Andrea K. Schlehwein gained international reputation working alongside Achim Freyer. AKS was present in numerous well respected opera productions worldwide at theatres including the Los Angeles Opera, Salzburger Festspiele, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Teatr Wielki in Warsaw among many others. 

In opera and musical theater, she has been directing in teams with Roland Aeschlimann, Achim Freyer, Anouk Nicklisch ✝ at theatres such as Deutsche Oper Berlin, Vereinigte Bühnen Frankfurt or the Grand Théâtre de Genève etc.

Her own productions are settled in the field of contemporary dance, installation, music theatre and multidisciplinary performance art. AKS designs sound, space and film concepts that have been presented so far worldwide in Austria, Argentina, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, Switzerland and Turkey.

In her home base in Carinthia/Austria, she established a multifunctional space for Contemporary Art, the ART SPACE stift millstatt, situated in an old monastery at Lake Millstättersee in the Carinthian Mountains. Here Andrea K. Schlehwein is one of two Artistic Directors responsible for a full year program presenting contemporary dance, multimedia art, performances, film screenings and exhibitions of Fine Art as well as the International Guest Performance Series LIGHT ON - LIGHT OFF, the Symposion ‘POSITIONEN I discourse and dialogue in contemporary dance Carinthia’ and other smaller formats like residencies and showings for young performative art.

She is the artistic director of NETZWERK AKS I Platform for Contemporary Dance + Art and of the Korean collective AKS I Seoul Section. She is a member of various juries, dramaturgically involved in the development of contemporary dance projects and inter cultural dialogues. AKS writes irregularly for magazine’s like Die Brücke, SIMSkultur, DanceWebZine and others.

Her work of the last years has been presented at various international dance festivals and venues for contemporary art around the world, such as Interaction III Indonesia, Stollwerk Köln, Orangerie im Volksgarten, Jogjakarta International Dance Festival, Makassar Art Moment, Platoon Kunsthalle Seoul, Asia Tri, SIDance / Seoul International Dance Festival and BISFF Busan International Short Film Festival.

Since 2008 Andrea K. Schlehwein is the CEO and Creative Director of büro für tanz | theater | produktionen, a think tank + management which acts alongside NETZWERK AKS as its backbone, production office and creation hub.
 
Andrea K. Schlehwein has received several awards for her work, such as a BMUKK prize in 2009 (Austria), the Jeong Mak Arts Award in 2017 (Korea) and 2020 a special recognition award for independent work in culture and art (Carinthia / Austria).
